After going on a solo hike, 20-year-old Emily Sotelo was reported missing in a region with subzero temperatures. Three days have passed and no leads have been found regarding Sotelo’s disappearance.

According to a post on social media made by the New Hampshire Fish and Game Law Enforcement Division and the anti-poaching initiative Operation Game Thief, Emily Sotelo was dropped off on Sunday morning at Lafayette Place Campground in Franconia, New Hampshire, with the aim of trekking Mount Lafayette, Haystack, and Flume in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

Emily Sotelo is still being searched by police

According to authorities, Emily Sotelo is described as being 5’3″, 115 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. She was last spotted wearing exercise trousers and a brown jacket. When Sotelo didn’t arrive back as expected on Sunday night, three search teams were dispatched. but The Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue Team stated in a statement that “the temperature along the region where Sotelo was trekking was around zero, 30 to 40 mph winds creating the chill factor -30” degrees.

The highest points of the mountain range are more than 5,000 feet above sea level. Along with Mount Lincoln and Little Haystack Peak, the mountain is a part of a loop Emily was supposed to trek that extends over a number of kilometres. Conservation authorities in New Hampshire are also asking for the public’s assistance in finding Sotelo. Hikers should contact the New Hampshire State Police Headquarters if they came across her on the intended path.

Stewart also mentioned that Sotelo had not worn appropriate clothing for the conditions. He added, “She was not particularly dressed for the temps right now; she was wearing shoes and maybe some wind pants.” Sotelo will turn 20 in a day, according to her mother Emily, who also pointed out that she was dressed in a brown jacket, exercise trousers, and sneakers. Professional hikers now have joined the authorities in their search for Sotelo on the same route where she was last seen.
