Elizabeth Anne Holmes was born to Christian Rasmus Holmes IV who is a vice president at Enron, an energy company that later went bankrupt after an accounting fraud scandal. Her mother is Noel Anne, who worked as a Congressional committee staffer. Anne studied at St. John’s School in Houston and later did her further studies at Stanford where she studied chemical engineering and worked as a student researcher and laboratory assistant in the School of Engineering in 2002.

In 2003, she established the company Real-Time Cures in Palo Alto, California to “democratize healthcare”. Anne Holmes renamed the company Theranos (a portmanteau of “therapy” and “diagnosis”) in 2003. Later, Robertson became the company’s first board member and introduced Anne Holmes to the venture capitalists.

By December of 2004, Anne Holmes raised $6 million to fund the firm. In July of 2011, she got introduced to former secretary of state George Shultz. After a two-hour meeting, he joined the Theranos board of directors. Anne was recognized for forming “the most illustrious board in the U.S. corporate history of all time” over the next 3 years.

She is awaiting sentencing while remaining ‘at liberty’ on a $500,000 bail secured with the property.

Anne Holmes had faced a big sentence of around twenty years in prison and a fine of nearly $250,000, plus restitution for each and every count of wire fraud and for every conspiracy count.
