The Rockefeller Christmas tree will be lit on Wednesday, November 30, 2022. A Swarovski star will be placed atop the tree before that time, along with more than 50,000 multicoloured lights. On November 30, at 8 p.m. EST/7 p.m. C, NBC will air a live broadcast of the lighting event under the title “Christmas at Rockefeller Center.”

The Christmas special will be hosted by NBC News TODAY co-anchors Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, Al Roker, and Craig Melvin and will also include festive performances. Carrie Underwood and Norah Jones, among others, performed the previous year.

Although the precise time for the public viewing has not yet been announced, the ceremony last year started at 8 p.m. Up until mid-January 2023, the public may view the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree.

Description Of Christmas Tree Lighting History

In December 1931, a group of workers from the Center pooled their funds to purchase a 20-foot tree, which became known as the first Rockefeller Christmas tree. The first Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Rockefeller Center took place in 1933.

In the ensuing decades, there were sporadic tree-lighting celebrations, but in 1997, the year the tree was transported by barge from Stony Point, New York, to New York City, the celebrations were made annual. Rockefeller’s tallest Christmas tree, measuring 100 feet tall, was displayed during the 1999 holiday season.

What Kind Of Tree Is It, And How Big Is It?

The Rockefeller Christmas tree this year is 50 feet wide and weighs 14 tons. According to reports, the tree is a Norway spruce from Queensbury in upstate New York, and it is between 85 and 90 years old.

On November 10, it was felled, loaded onto a 115-foot trailer, and driven to Manhattan. The tree will be covered with nearly 3 million crystals weighing 3 million pounds and the star at the top of the tree, which weighs 900 pounds (408 kg).
