The comedy world bears a big loss today,” the Hollywood Improv statement read. “In 1963 Budd changed the world of comedy by making one the first comedy club for the masses to come together in laughter. In 1963 Budd, changed the world and he went global. He was a pioneer and a gentleman, luminary.”
Budd Friedman Professional Career, Clubs And Achievements
The red brick walls of the Improv comedy club chain, which had 22 branches all across the world around 12 states. But later on Budd Friedman and his business partner Mark Lonow sold it to Levity Entertainment Group in 2018. In 1963, Budd Friedman launched the first establishment of the brand in New York, which is still the chain’s flagship restaurant in the West 44th Street and Ninth Avenue.
The Improv based in New York hosted its first on-stage comedian Dave Astor in 1964. The venue was established as a gathering place for Broadway players to enjoy food, beverages, and soft music.
Apart from being an American actor and comedian, Budd M. Friedman was also the founder and the first owner of Improvisation Comedy Club which opened in 1963 on West 44th Street near the SE corner of its 9th Avenue based in Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood.
Budd was both a well-known producer and a performer. Friedman began his improv clubs in other places such as the Fantasy Springs Resort and Casino in Indio, California, and the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California, on the 23rd of March in, 2007, and in Los Angeles in 1975.
He was a key part of the Korean War as an infantryman in the American Army. On Budd’s first day of combat in the summer of 1953, when his battalion was advancing on Pork Chop Hill, Budd got injured by an enemy grenade. He received Purple Heart as well as the Combat Infantryman Badge. While he was still recovering at the hospital, the ceasefire started.

On 12th November 2022, Budd Friedman died suffering from heart failure at the age of 90 years. He had a net worth of $1.5 million. Budd was married to Alix and had 4 kids namely Ross, Dax, Zoe, and Beth.
