Leo Anthony Gallagher was an American comedian who had numerous famous HBO specials and 13 comedy specials for Showtime. Leo Gallagher died on the 11th of November 2022 after suffering from multiple organ failure in hospice care in Palm Springs, California.

Until the young age of 9 he lived in Lorain, Ohio, but because of his asthma later on his family shifted to South Tampa, Florida. Leo studied at H.B. Plant High School and he further graduated from the University of South Florida with a chemical engineering degree in 1970. He was born to Leo Gallagher Sr.
Comedian Gallagher reportedly had one child, a daughter named Aimee Gallagher and was divorced twice. While his wives names are not known, he had a brother named Ron too.
Gallagher died after he suffered a massive organ failure with many heart attacks.

After finishing college, Leo Anthony Gallagher began working as a comic/musician. Stafford and Gallagher traveled to California in 1969 during which time Gallagher decided to perform. Leo started honing his own comedy act while frequenting both The Comedy Store and The Ice House. He has performed twice on The Tonight Show when Johnny Carson was hosting, though Carson disliked prop comedy.
Gallagher was considered as one of the most popular and recognizable American comedians during the 1980s. Leo did fourteen comedy specials for Showtime which have been re-broadcast several times, notably on Comedy Central. He also for the post of governor in the 2003 California gubernatorial recall election, Gallagher finished 16th out of 135 candidates with around 5,466 votes.
Gallagher’s signature sketch was a pitch for the “Sledge-O-Matic,” a big wooden mallet that he used to smash a different variety of food items and other objects, culminating with a watermelon. It also got featured on a variety of props including a big trampoline designed to look like a couch.
In 2004, Comedy Central rated Gallagher as the 100th best stand-up comedian of all time in history. Leo Gallagher was displeased with being ranked so low and he stated The Oregonian, “I have looked at the other people and I was also trying to find anyone I ever heard of. How could I be behind people I never heard of? … I made 13 one-hour shows for Showtime which is available on videotape.” In July of 2012, Leo got featured in a television commercial for GEICO Insurance.
