The top-ranked English team advanced to the Rugby World Cup final with a 26-19 victory over Canada on Saturday, extending its record-setting winning streak to 30 games. Emily Scarratt’s penalty gave England a 15-12 advantage at the break, and another goal from Scarratt made it 18-12 shortly after. Scarratt scored once more to secure England’s lead when they were once more under pressure following a try by replacement Tyson Beukeboom in the 68th minute that allowed Canada to get back into the game at 23-19.
At Auckland’s Eden Park, England will take on reigning champion New Zealand, which overcame a 17-10 deficit at the half to defeat France 25-24. In the final minute, Caroline Drouin had a penalty kick opportunity to advance France to its first World Cup final, but she rushed the kick and pulled it wide from 30 meters. To overturn France’s advantage at the half and secure its spot in the championship game, New Zealand put on an excellent second half performance.
On Saturday, hosts New Zealand are expected to face stern challenge against England, who are currently on winning streak of 30 matches. The final match will start at 19:30 NZDT on Saturday. Meanwhile, France and Canada will face-off in bronze medal play-off on Saturday, starting from 16:30 NZDT.
