Prediction

The semifinal matchup between World No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas and defending champion Novak Djokovic at the 2022 Paris Masters will take place on Saturday.

Djokovic, who received a bye in the first round, beat Maxime Cressy and Karen Khachanov in straight sets to progress to the quarterfinals, where Lorenzo Musetti awaited him. In the first set, the Serb performed beautifully and delivered a bagel to secure the win. Musetti showed signs of improvement by taking an early break to lead 2-1 in the second set. Djokovic won the next four games in a row to take the lead 5-2. The former World No. 1 held serve one last time to end the game, but the Italian held on to take the victory 6-0, 6-3. Djokovic has now won 12 straight matches to continue his winning streak and advance to his sixth semifinal of the year.

On the other hand, Tsitsipas receives a bye in the first round since he is the fifth seed. He subsequently overcame Dan Evans and Corentin Moutet to get to the quarterfinals and faced Tommy Paul. The Greek’s match had a rocky beginning because he had to hold serve four times to avoid breaking. He quickly made things right by winning two games to go up 3-0. Paul had three more break points to go back to serve in the sixth game, but he wasted the opportunity. After a few more games, Tsitsipas again broke his rival’s serve to take the opening set.

The pair kept up a powerful serve for the most of the second set. As he served to stay in the match at 5-4, Tsitsipas was able to break Paul’s serve rather comfortably to win the match 6-2, 6-4, and proceed to his 11th semifinal of the year.

Their rivalry has gotten increasingly one-sided because Djokovic has won seven of their last eight encounters. Earlier this month, the two squared off in the Astana Open final, where Tsitsipas was completely outplayed and failed to generate even one break point. The current form of the 21-time Major champion indicates that the Greek is about to face another beating.
