Prediction
The fifth-ranked player in the world, Stefanos Tsitsipas, will play a qualifier named Corentin Moutet on Thursday in the third round of the 2022 Paris Masters.
Tsitsipas had a bye in the first round and then went up against Dan Evans in the second round. The Greek broke early in the first set to gain a 3-0 lead, which he kept all the way to the end to win. To start the second set, he broke the British player’s serve, and following a hold of his own, he extended his lead to 2-0. Evan had break points in each of his subsequent service games, but he chose not to take them. Nevertheless, with to the one break from earlier, he was able to win the match 6-3, 6-4.
On the other hand, Corentin Moutet overcame fellow countrymen Geoffrey Blancaneaux and Ugo Humbert to advance to the Paris main draw. He won in three sets against Borna Coric in the first round before facing Cameron Norrie in the second. In the fifth game of the first set, Moutet broke to take a 3-2 lead, earning him the first point. He again broke the British player’s serve in the end to take the set. The pair’s serve was quite steady for the entirety of the second set. Norrie won the set when he improved throughout the crucial part of the match and won three straight games.
The two players once broke each other’s service early in the third set. Moutet faced a match point at 5-4 on Norrie’s serve, but the British player fought back to avoid losing the match. The Frenchman was unstoppable, he won the match 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (3) in the tie-break.
Tsitsipas was rarely at risk when competing against Evans in the previous round. He played well to defeat the Briton in straight sets once more. The No. 5 player in the world had seven unforced errors compared to 28 wins. Left-handed with his forehand, Moutet usually puts his opponent in an unpleasant position. He can make Tsitsipas’s life difficult and is quite comfortable moving forward to finish the points. The Greek, though, should be able to handle any challenges that his opponent might present with relative ease if he maintains his performance from the previous round.
