Head To Head:
Prediction
Sixth seed Holger Rune of Denmark will face Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain in the 2022 Swiss Indoors semifinal on Saturday, October 29 in Basel.
Bautista Agut stopped Stan Wawrinka’s home run with a demanding 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) victory that took two hours and nine minutes to complete. The 22nd-ranked player in the world, who is attempting to reach his fourth final of the year, upset Wawrinka in the first game of the match. The Swiss player came back to serve the set, but the Spaniard took advantage of a late second break to take the first set. Both players consistently delivered serves in the second set. After a tiebreak, Bautista Agut prevailed over the resurgent former No. 3 player to win the match.
Although it was significantly harder than his previous two, this was Bautista Gut’s third straight set victory. The 34-year-old upset Andy Murray 6-3, 6-2 in the second round after defeating Laslo Djere 6-4, 6-1 in the opening round.
The second-place finisher in Mallorca and the winner in Doha, Buatista Agut, is currently one victory away from making his fourth final of the year. He took part in 21 finals throughout his career and won 10 titles. When he entered the competition, he had lost two matches in a row in the first round, but in Basel, he quickly recovered. He’ll be aiming to qualify for the title match now that he’s found his rhythm.
On the other hand, at the tour-level, Rune is ready to advance to his third straight final. He entered the semifinals in Basel, where he had previously been second in Sofia and first in Stockholm, by defeating Arthur Rinderknech in straight sets on Friday. When the Dane defeated Alex de Minaur and Ugo Humbert in the opening two rounds, respectively, he wasn’t broken.
In fact, he wasn’t broken by Rinderknech either in the quarterfinal game. The Frenchman was unable to create a single break point throughout the entire clash. Rune, on the other hand, had three of them, and despite failing to serve in the first set, he won the match 7-6 (7-0), 6-2 by making both of his second-set attempts.
Rune has recently been on fire, winning eight straight games. It will be challenging for even the world’s number 22 to halt the streaking Rune, who is one a career-high rating of 25, despite the fact that Bautista Agut is far more experienced and also in great shape. On Saturday, the Dane should continue his streak.
