Rishi was born on the 12th of May in 1980 to his mother Usha who was a chemist worker and his father Yashvir who is a NHS GP in Southampton. He read Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at Winchester College Oxford and earned an MBA from university of Stanford based in California. He returned to the UK to work as an analyst for the investment bank Goldman Sachs from year 2001 to 2004.
Rishi then joined the hedge fund management firm Childrenโs Investment Fund Management and became a partner in year 2006. The new Prime Minister joined Conservative Party in October of 2014 when he took over Richmond (Yorks). Other roles he held include head of the BME Research Unit of Policy Exchange and chief secretary to the Treasury. Rishi was later on was appointed to the latter role in 2019. He is a Hindu by religion.

Rishi got married to Britain-based Indian fashion designer named Akshata Murty who is the daughter of Indian businessman and billionaire N. R. Narayana Murthy.
Akshata Murthy got a degree in Economics and French from Claremont McKenna College based in California. Akshata eventually went on to establish her own fashion company named Akshata Designs which closed down within 3 years of trading.
