Head To Head: 2-0

Sakkari defeated Bouzkova 2-0 in their prior encounters. In their previous meeting at the 2021 Canadian Open, the Czech retired in the middle of the second set, giving her the victory.

Prediction

Sixth-ranked Maria Sakkari will face Marie Bouzkova on Saturday in the last four of the 2022 Guadalajara Open.

Veronika Kudermetova was waiting for Sakkari in the quarterfinals after she overcame Marta Kostyuk and Danielle Collins. The winner would also be guaranteed a place in the WTA Finals. She got out to a quick start, establishing a 5-0 advantage. After Kudermetova stopped her opponent’s momentum with a hold of service to make it 5-1, the Greek easily served out the set to win it.

Both players had a few break point opportunities early in the second set but failed to capitalise on them. At 6-5 in the second set, Kudermetova broke Sakkari’s serve to take the set and the match. The decisive set was broken to start by the Greek, who then maintained her serve to extend her lead to 2-0. The Russian had four break points to return to serving in the fourth game, but he all went to waste.

Sakkari held the lead all the way until the end of the game. She took the court to serve for the match at 5-4, and after avoiding a break point, she won 6-1, 5-7, 6-4.

On the other hand, Marie Bouzkova defeated Tereza Martincova, Camila Osorio, and Liudmila Samsonova to qualify to the quarterfinals where she will faced Anna Kalinskaya. Bouzkova took a break to go up 2-1 in the first set, but Kalinskaya immediately levelled the score. The Czech then broke her opponent’s serve twice to take a 5-2 lead. Bouzkova advanced to the semifinals as a result of the Russian’s unfortunate inability to continue due to an injury.

Sakkari repelled 14 out of 15 break points in her quarterfinal encounter against Kudermetova. Bouzkova eventually retired in the quarterfinals, so she was unable to challenge Kalinskaya. Nevertheless, the Czech has been playing wonderfully and has just lost one set in the competition so far. Sakkari sometimes finds it challenging because of the variety in Bouzkova’s game. The Greek, on the other hand, seems to have a goal this week and will likely be successful in making it to the next stage.
