Auger-Aliassime had a bye in the first round and played Manuel Guinard in the following round. The first half of the opening set was an even match between the two players. The Canadian improved as the match drew to a close, winning the next three games to capture the set. After breaking serve to start the second set, Auger-Aliassime extended his lead by holding to take a 2-0 lead. Guinard had a break point to return to serving in the sixth game, but he chose not to take it. The Canadian kept the edge he had earned and easily served out the match to win 6-3, 6-3. With the win, Auger-Aliassime advanced to his 14th quarterfinal of the season. He now has a 5-8 record.

On the other hand, in the opening round, Dan Evans defeated Tallon Griekspoor 6-4, 6-4. In the second round, he faced Constant Lestienne, the 69th-ranked player in the world. Despite some challenges, the British player quickly took a 5-1 lead in the opening set. In the fourth game, he had to avoid three break points to keep his serve intact, but other than that, everything went according to plan for him.

Evans easily won the first set, and in the second, he totally dominated the opposing player. Lestienne held service to start the set, but after winning six straight games, the British player won the game 6-2, 6-1. Evans has now made it five times this year to the competition quarterfinals. Out of the last four games, he has only lost one.

Auger-Aliassime is in great shape right now thanks to his victory at the Firenze Open last weekend. Evans failed to break his opponent’s serve in their first meeting at the Australian Open this year and went 0/3 on break points. Evans is a challenging opponent, but Auger-Aliassime should be able to defeat him in the end given that he has momentum on his side.
