At the BetVictor Northern Ireland Open in Belfast, Aaron Hill defeated Judd Trump, a 23-time winner of ranking events, 4-1. David Lilley, the world’s 108th-ranked player, defeated 2015 World Champion Stuart Bingham 4-0 to add to the shocks. Kyren Wilson defeated Sean O’Sullivan 4-3 after rallying from a 3-2 deficit, which sets up a fascinating matchup with Stephen Maguire in the round of 32. While Scotland’s Anthony McGill upset Belgian rookie Julian Leclecq 4-1, Welsh amateur Daniel Wells defeated Welsh Open champion Joe Perry 4-0.
Jackson Page lost to John Higgins in a nail-biting match at the Waterfront Hall while John Higgins overcame a 3-2 deficit to defeat Jackson Page 4-3 and advance to the BetVictor Northern Ireland Open round of 32. Barry Hawkins defeated Louis Heathcote 4-0 to go to the round of 32 as well. After defeating Jimmy White 4-0, Luca Brecel resumed his quest to hold two Home Nations titles concurrently. Shaun Murphy and David Gilbert both qualified for the following round by defeating Jamie Clarke and Noppon Saengkham 4-1, while Tom Ford overcame Scott Donaldson by the same margin.
As with all Home Nations tournaments, matches will be best of seven frames up to and including the fourth round. Each quarterfinal will consist of nine frames, each semifinal will consist of eleven frames, and the title match will consist of seventeen frames.

In 2022, the winner of the Northern Ireland Open will get ยฃ80,000 in prize money, but the runner-up will only receive ยฃ35,000. A minimum of ยฃ17,500 in prize money from the $427,000 total prize fund will go to each semifinalist.
