Following a first-round bye, fourth seed Maria Sakkari will face World No. 58 Marta Kostyuk in the second round of the 2022 Guadalajara Open on Tuesday.
While Sakkari had a great start to the year, over the last three months she has struggled in the majority of the competitions. Her 33 victories this season, roughly half of which came in the first three months, are impressive. Her first final after Indian Wells took place in Parma last month, and the Greek lost to Mayar Sherif. To qualify for the WTA Finals, where she entered the semifinals the previous year, she must perform well this week.
Meanwhile, Aliaksandra Sasnovich was Marta Kostyuk’s first opponent in Guadalajara as she launched her campaign.
