Mutombo attended Boboto College in Kinshasa to lay the groundwork for his medical career. At the young age of 16, Dikembe Mutombo decided to work on his basketball career with the encouragement of his father and brother due to his height. He won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award four times; he was also an eight-time All-Star.
