It was crucial that Colombia had Linda Caceido in their ranks against China since after Spain’s tight loss in their initial game, the situation was already all or nothing. The tactical change paid off handsomely because China found it difficult to get into the game and their chances never posed a real threat to Colombia’s goal. Contrarily, Caceido proved to them how it’s done by scoring twice and earning the right to be named player of the game. Mexico defeated Spain 2-1 in the second Group C match of the day, setting up an exciting Group C finish for spectators as all four teams now have three points.
The biggest surprise of the day was Tanzania’s 2-1 triumph over France, which damaged qualification chances of France. In another Group D match, Japan dropped a stellar performance versus Canada because of their outstanding teamwork. As a result, Japan is the only country in this U-17 Women’s World Cup to still have an undefeated record, and their performances have highlighted their aspirations to win the championship again after doing so in 2014. By securing their spot in the quarterfinals with 4-0 victory over Canada, Japan has moved one step closer to that objective.
On Monday, India will face Brazil in their last group stage match and aim to grab a consolation win after crashing out of tournament due to heavy defeat in first two matches. Fans can purchase their tickets for this event from here.
