The stadium is home to Western United who play in the A-League and Geelong Football Club of the AFL.
The Kardinia Park Stadium Trust owns and runs the stadium. The stadium was earlier selected for hosting the 2020 T20 World Cup, but the world cup venue shifted to UAE due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

Kardinia Stadium History
The stadium started out as the Kardinia park zoo initially in 1903 housing around 20 types of animals.
Officials enclosed the main pond in the park to accommodate wild birds and other exotic animals.
The Kardinia Park went on to host a Motorcycle speedway during the late 1920s and early 1930s.
Later, in the first decade of this century, Kardinia Park developed into Australia’s best regional stadium. This is thanks to a number of redevelopments that have changed the stadium over time.
Kardinia Park Boundary Length
According to the ICC requirements, stadiums need a distance of at least 137.16m boundary-to-boundary square of the wicket. However, The Kardinia stadium initially did not meet the 115-meter-wide field.
Moreover, the stadium also did not me the rule which stated that the shorter of the two square leg boundaries must be at least 59.43 metres long.
However, this has changed thanks to the added extra area square of the wicket. The Kardinia stadium’s shortest boundary is now 64m.
Kardinia Park Construction Cost
The stadium serves as a multi-sport hosting area, which frequently hosts various Australian football and soccer matches.
Following the necessary changes made as per the ICC rules, around $142 million was spent for the redevelopment plans.
Land Area
The stadium is 170m long and 115m wide and occupies an area of 60 acres.
