Head To Head: 3-1

According to their head-to-head record, Swiatek has won 3-1 in their last four encounters. At the US Open in 2022, she defeated her in a straight-sets victory.

Prediction

Iga Swiatek, in her opening match of the competition, the 21-year-old had a little hiccup when she lost to Qinwen Zheng in the second set, necessitating a third and final set. She was able to take control there though, as she went on to win 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 to advance. What truly stuck out was her quarterfinal performance. To advance to the semifinals, she defeated Coco Gauff 6-0, 6-3. She now leads the series 4-0, including an 11-1 record against anyone rated in the Top 10 this year.

Guaff and Swiatek often agree on the bulk of topics throughout a game. This time around, Swiatek proved to be too much for the American player, dominating on offence. Both players are nimble and formidable defenders. In her eleven outings this year, Swiatek has advanced to the final eight times by winning, and she is currently fighting in her eleventh semifinal of the year.

Prior to facing Swiatek in the semifinals, Pegula faced fellow countrywomen Coco Vandeweghe and Madison Keys. Pegula hasn’t lost a set yet and has been flawless through two. She triumphed over Keys 6-4, 7-5, and Vandeweghe 6-3, 6-1. More than in the previous round, she was put to the test in her encounter with Keys, but she still remained steady throughout. Keys occasionally made careless errors, and Pegula was able to take advantage of them to score points.

With her victory over Keys, Pegula qualified for the WTA Finals in both singles and doubles, in addition to securing a position in the semifinal. She will now be the first American since Serena and Venus Williams in 2009 to compete in both events at the year-end tournament. An excellent week.

It should be fun to see this game. The tournament’s strongest opponents so far will be Swiatek and Pegula, who are both playing outstanding tennis. A serving lesson was one of Swiatek’s acts while he was performing. The Pole has been displaying her adaptability and self-assurance more and more, and against Gauff she didn’t drop her serve thanks to the addition of variety to her service game.
