WBO Orders For Terence Crawford vs Shawn Porter Title Fight To Be Negotiated In The Next 30 Days

Terence Crawford vs Shawn Porter is in the words after WBO ordered a fight between the former welterweight champion and ESPN’s no. 2 pound-for-pound boxer

The World Boxing Organization has sent out a letter to promoters, ordering negotiations for a fight between welterweight titlist Terence Crawford and Shawn Porter. In the letter, WBO informed the parties that they have 30 days to negotiate the fight. If they are not able to reach during this time frame, they will order a purse bid in which the rights to the title tilt will be auctioned, with a minimum of $200,000, and a 60-40 split in Crawford’s favor.

While a sanctioning organization’s order is no guarantee that a fight will happen, this matchup is a natural. Read on to know more.

WBO Wants Terence Crawford vs Shawn Porter To Happen

Crawford and Top Rank have disappointed fans and media for very long as fight after fight, Bud hasn’t fought against someone considered to be a top-flight contender in a division that has names. Even reports of Jose Zepeda being Crawford’s next opponent were met with very little enthusiasm. A fight with Shawn Porter is just what they might need to fix this. As for Porter, there’s no bigger fight he can make right now than one with Terence Crawford.

Until Wednesday night when the WBO delivered their ruling, Terence Crawford had no fight in the offing. He is a three-weight world champion and undefeated in 37 outings, having defended his WBO belt against Jose Benavidez, Amir Khan, Egidijus Kavaliauskas and Kell Brook. Meanwhile, Shawn Porter is a former two-time welterweight champion. He lost a thrilling fight with Crawford’s great rival Errol Spence Jr in 2019, which went back-and-forth.

Terence Crawford Responds To Potential Fight With Shawn Porter

Crawford told ESPN how he has been begging for a real challenge for years and now he’s finally getting what he asked for. He responded to WBO’s news with a thumbs-up and winky face on Twitter, clearly excited to have his first major fight.

Shawn Porter too has expressed a willingness to cast aside promotional differences and go head-to-head with Crawford in the ring. Several months ago, he revealed that his team had attempted to make a showdown with Crawford a reality. But they ultimately dropped the idea feeling disrespected with what was offered to him financially.
