Following Amera FC’s 3-2 loss to archrival Persebaya, supporters from both teams ran onto the pitch and clashed with each other. According to East Java Police Chief, the police attempted to control the supporters by firing tear gas, which resulted in a stampede. Kanjuruhan is also Arema FC’s home stadium, and due to the occurrence of violent confrontations, Persebaya fans were not authorised to purchase game tickets.
