Prediction
Friday’s quarterfinal of the 2022 Korea Open will feature Yoshihito Nishioka of Japan, the second-ranked player in the world.
Ruud took some time to settle in during his first match in Seoul, despite the fact that he has made significant strides on hard courts and had reached the US Open final. After receiving a bye in the first round, Ruud entered the second round. Nicolas Jarry forced him to play three sets before he won. In a match that lasted an hour and 43 minutes against Jarry, who was rated 111st, Ruud prevailed 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
Ruud managed to withstand 13 aces, but his sole serve trouble occurred in the second set’s fourth game when he faced his lone break-point and was broken. Ruud, though, was unable to capitalise on his two breakpoints in the set and gave up the equaliser. In the decider, the top-ranked player from Norway defeated Jarry in the sixth game before winning on his fourth match-point.
On the other hand, after defeating Dan Evans in the first round of the competition in straight sets, Nishioka wasted no time in defeating Taro Daniel in the second. Nishioka beat Daniel with a score of 6-2, 6-4 in an hour and 22 minutes to go to his third ATP quarterfinal of the year despite being the 3/5 underdog going into the match. In order to avoid giving up any break points, Nishioka, a semifinalist at the Washington Open, had to rely on his powerful first serves. At the same time, he obtained five of them, shattering his rival three times to seal the victory.
It will be interesting to see if Nishoka can repeat his Washington performance, where he defeated Dan Evans, Andrey Rublev, Karen Khachanov, Alex de Minaur, and Jenson Brooksby to go to the final.
The favourite, Ruud, should be on guard against Nishioka’s potential for a run of good form. Nishioka is predicted to win at least one set.
