The new biopic titled Blonde, tells the life story of Norma Jeane Mortensen, and how she became a Hollywood icon. The film explores her complicated childhood and love affairs with the likes of John F. Kennedy and Charlie Chaplin Jr.
Blonde also reveals some of Marilyn Monroe’s husbands. It also discloses how many times she got married throughout her life and who exactly her husbands were.
Blonde: Release Date And Plot Preview
Netflix released Blonde on Wednesday, September 28, 2022. The film is based on the bestselling novel written by Joyce Carol Oates with the same name.
The film starrs Ana de Armas and tells the story of Marilyn Monroe. It details how she grows from a volatile childhood as Norma Jeane Mortensen into becoming one of the most recognisable people in the world.
Marilyn’s rise to stardom isn’t an easy one like many other famous celebrities. Relationship issues, exploitation, abuses of power and drug addiction, constantly ravage her life behind the scenes.
How Many Did Marilyn Monroe Marry And Who Are Her Husbands?
Marilyn Monroe married three times and had three husbands during her life.
- First Marriage
Marilyn’s first marriage was with James Dougherty. Marilyn married James when she was just 16 years old. When Dougherty met Marilyn, he had recently graduated from high school and was working at the aerospace manufacturing firm Lockheed Aircraft.
He then went on to serve in the Merchant Navy in World War II and later joined the Los Angeles Police Department.
James and Marilyn did not have a long marriage. The pair divorced in 1946, four years after tying the knot in 1942.
- Second Marriage
Marilyn’s second marriage was with former New York Yankees baseball player Joe DiMaggio in 1954, following a two-year romance.
The pair had a troubled marriage. After a falling out over the subway grate scene in The Seven Year Itch, Marilyn filed for divorce after just nine months, which was finalised in 1955. The pair reconciled several years later.
- Third Marriage
Marilyn’s third and final husband was renowned playwright Arthur Miller. The pair began their relationship after Monroe’s divorce from DiMaggio and in June 1956 they tied the knot.
The pair had a complicated relationship from the start as the FBI were investigating Miller against allegations of communism. The issue also led to the FBI opening a file on Marilyn.
It was however, Monroe’s longest marriage as she and Miller stayed together for six years. Their relationship eventually broke down while they both worked on the film The Misfits.
Following this, the couple divorced in 1961, a year before Marilyn’s death at the age of just 36.
Who Are Marilyn Monroe’s Husbands In Blonde?
In Blonde, Bobby Cannavale and Adrien Brody play Marilyn’s husbands Joe DiMaggio and Arthur Miller respectively.
Whereas, James Dougherty, doesn’t appear in the film as Blonde takes place in the 1950s and 60s, years after he and Marilyn had divorced in 1946.
Bobby Cannavale is popularly known from a number of roles. He had notable appearances in The Irishman, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Ant-Man as well as Ant-Man and the Wasp, Jon Favreau’s Chef and Paul Blart: Mall Cop.
Adrien Brody, meanwhile, is best known for his Oscar-winning role in The Pianist. Brody also also starred in the recently released whodunnit See How They Run, Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris, Peter Jackson’s King Kong as well as the Wes Anderson films The Grand Budapest Hotel, Fantastic Mr Fox and The French Dispatch.
