Clayton, who won the World Grand Prix for the first time in 2021, will start his campaign against 2020 edition runner-up Van Duijvenbode. The highest ranked unseeded player in the field, Anderson, is matched up against five-time winner Van Gerwen in the draw for the unusual double-start tournament, which will be held at the Morningside Arena in Leicester from October 3–9.

World’s top-ranked player Gerwyn Price will face Martin Schindler, one of three tournament debutants this year, in an effort to replicate his victory from 2020 in the £600,000 competition. In a thrilling matchup, fourth-seeded Michael Smith takes on Nathan Aspinall, while world champion Peter Wright plays Kim Huybrechts in the opening round of his quest for the first World Grand Prix victory. Two-time champion James Wade will face rookie Martin Lukeman, while Masters champion Joe Cullen will face Australia’s top player Damon Heta in ties that are a repeat from this year’s World Matchplay first round.

While four-time European Tour champion Luke Humphries takes on 2019 semifinalist Chris Dobey, UK Open champion Danny Noppert squares up against German number one Gabriel Clemens. Other matches include the quarterfinalist from the World Championship, Callan Rydz, taking on Poland’s top player, Krzysztof Ratajski, and the 2011 runner-up, Brendan Dolan, taking on the former Lakeside Champion, Stephen Bunting.
