2022 Meltwater Champions Chess Tour: Leg 7 – Julius Baer Generation Cup Magnus Carlsen vs Arjun Erigaisi Final, Day 1 Results, Score, And Last Day Schedule

Magnus Carlsen gave one of his most convincing performances in a long time during the Julius Baer Generation Cup, and it continued in the final when he finished first day with a lead of 2.5-0.5. Arjun Erigaisi must now win two games in a row on Sunday in order to prompt a blitz tiebreak. During first two games of the final, Carlsen managed to beat Arjun comfortably and looked set to have a perfect start as he was nearing win in third game as well. However, Carlsen then mysteriously fumbled away what appeared to be another win, but the draw was enough to give him a 2.5-0.5 advantage.

At the conclusion, Erigaisi, an Indian native of Warangal, was gloomy but declared he wished to maintain his optimism. Although he acknowledged that Carlsen had the edge in the game, he hoped that things would turn out well for him on Monday so that he could play his best chess. Even though he had a commanding lead early on, Carlsen was far from content since he made mistakes in the third game of the day that prevented him from reaching the 2900 rating threshold.
