Prediction

Jelena Ostapenko, the winner of the 2017 French Open, will compete against World No. 24 Ekaterina Alexandrova in the 2022 Korea Open final on Sunday.

Ostapenko easily defeated Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva in the quarterfinals following a number of gruelling three-set triumphs. The semifinal opponent was Emma Raducanu. The Latvian outlasted the British professional with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 3-0 (ret.) to enter her third final of the season.

In order to face Tatjana Maria in the semifinals, Ekaterina Alexandrova overcame Asia Muhammad, Na-lae Han, and Lulu Sun. With a quick 4-0 lead, the Russian got off to a good start. By winning the following two games, her opponent briefly displayed hints of a comeback.

However, Alexandrova won the following two games to win the set. She took a 4-0 lead to begin the second set. To make it 4-3, Maria went on a three-game run. Maria saved a match point and served to maintain the match’s 5-3 lead after another game. But Alexandrova put matters to rest in the subsequent match, winning 6-2, 6-4, and going on to her second final of the year.

Meanwhile, Ostapenko struggled to get going in the semifinals, and a similar performance in the final could cost her the championship. Compared to her 29 unforced errors in the previous round, she had 40 winners this time.

Alexandrova also produced a respectable 29 victories.

Similar strategies are used by both sides. With their powerful groundstrokes, each enjoys controlling the play from the baseline. Since Alexandrova’s serve is marginally superior that the Latvian’s, she may have the advantage necessary to win the title.

Alexandrova can easily handle her opponent based on her winning record against her. Ostapenko has had few moments during the competition where she seemed little shaky, but so far she has been able to find way around obstacles. But given how she has fared thus far in Seoul, she might find it difficult to do so against Alexandrova.
