Formula 1: Drive To Survive

Formula 1: Drive To Survive has garnered a lot of popularity on Netflix with four seasons released so far.

The series takes a look at each Formula 1 season, covering all the twists and turns with the various teams and drivers as the focal point throughout the campaign.

‘Drive To Survive’ Sparks Unprecedented British GP Ticket Demand

The popular Netflix show, allows a behind-the-scenes look at the motor sport. The how has attained so much success that Silverstone’s managing director, Stuart Pringle, claimed this week that it was a reason for an unprecedented demand for British Grand Prix tickets.

He stated:

After seven days of being on sale 75 percent of our inventory has been sold – as many tickets as sold in 32 weeks last year.

We do know that we have seen demand the likes of which we have never seen before.

A few factors have contributed to this: series four of Drive to Survive on Netflix is doing brilliantly at building broader interest and any promoter of Formula One around the world will tell you they are feeling the benefit of that.

A PL ‘Drive To Survive-style’ Netflix Series

Following the success of the F1 series, British-based production company Box To Box Films who produced it wants to do a PL version.

Box To Box Films are also known for making the boxing series ‘The Kings’ as well as Make Us Dream — a documentary about Steven Gerrard.

The production company has apparently already made contact with PL clubs about their plans. Despite the news, there are still plenty of details that all parties need to figure out. One such issue is how much access clubs will provide especially footage of behind the scenes as well as the rights to show highlights.

All such issues will involve a collective decision made by the 20 clubs. So far, the Premier League and the production company have both declined to comment.

An Exciting Prospect

The new PL Netflix series seems to be an exciting prospect as previous similar shows have already proven.

Amazon’s All Or Nothing series, which features a series on Manchester City, Tottenham and Arsenal has been incredibly popular with football fans ever since its release.

Netflix, who announced a net loss of 200,000 subscribers in April, now want a similar success with the PL. The PL is a league where merely getting a match ticket can be extremely difficult, so the series will undoubtedly garner the attention of a lot of football fans around the world.
