She held a crucial role as the queen’s personal dressmaker. Her official title was “Personal Assistant, Adviser, and Curator to Her Majesty (Jewellery, Insignias, and Wardrobe).”
She has been snapped with Her Majesty on many occasions outside the palace. Back in 2018, Angela was spotted seated next to Vogue editor Anna Wintour in London Fashion Week.
Who is Angela Kelly?
Mary Angela Kelly is a renowned British fashion designer, dressmaker, and milliner. She’s known as the Queen’s dressmaker as she joined the role after an interview at Windsor Castle in 1994.
Reports suggest that Angela was interviewed by none other than the Queen’s lady-in-waiting Susan Hussey.
Over the decades, Angela made some of the most notable outfits for the Royal family, including the Queen’s outfit for the wedding of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Catherine Middleton.
She also made a replica of the royal christening gown, along with outfits for Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie for the wedding of Zara Phillips and many more.
Apart from making outfits for the Royal family, Kelly is also the founder of a fashion label Kelly & Pordum, with Alison Pordum, who also worked as the late monarch’s in-house dressmaker till 2008.
As a crucial staff of the late sovereign, over the years, Angela received a number of accolades. She was appointed as a member of the Royal Victorian Order and later got promoted to Lieutenant of the same Order.
In 2014, Angela was awarded with the Royal Household Long and Faithful Service Medal for serving the late Queen and the Royal family for more than 2 decades.
According to various reports, Kelly was really close to the late Queen. In an interview she was seen saying, “I love the Queen and everything about her.”
While speaking with the Telegraph, Kelly said, “She (the Queen) has allowed me to become closer to her over the years. I would never overstep the mark and I remain in awe of the Queen.”
As per the same reports, the queen had suggested to Kelly to live close to her at Windsor Castle only 3 months before her death. While her salary isn’t known, The Queen’s private secretary is reported to take home around £146,000 a year. Angela’s net worth stood at $2 million.
