Katie Swan of the United Kingdom defeated Anastasia Gasanova, a giant killer, with a score of 7-6 (5), 6-2. Despite appearing injured in the first set, Swann overcame the challenge posed by her Russian opponent.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, Nao Hibino, a Japanese qualifier, defeated sixth-seeded Qiang Wang on Wednesday to progress to the WTA250 Chennai Open quarterfinals.

Without dropping a set, the 27-year-old Hibino has won all four of her matches, including two qualifiers. She is the only qualifier left in the main draw. Although Hibino defeated Wang 6-2, 6-3, she believed the victory was not that simple. “The game was difficult. It doesn’t seem difficult based on the game’s score. I had a significant edge in the first and second sets but she made a great comeback and put me under a lot of strain,” said the Japanese player despite winning in straight sets.

Hibino will enter the match as a slight favourite and is expected to win today at the last eight.
