Champions Showdown: Chess 9LX 2022 Results Today, Winners, Day 2 Schedule, Date, Time, Venue, And Updated Standings

Ian Nepomniachtchi emerged as the early leader with a flawless score, winning all three of his games in a total of 75 moves. Following him closely is fellow grandmaster Fabiano Caruana, who won two games and drew one to finish Day 1 with 2.5 points. Chess960 World Champion GM Wesley So’s chances of winning the competition were damaged by a difficult defeat to Alireza Firouzja in round two, while former World Champion Garry Kasparov was+ unlucky to earn zero point across first three rounds.

Nepomniachtchi was in excellent form in the opening rounds, beginning with a victory over Svidler, who switched from commentating to taking part in the competition. After winning round one, the contender for the world championship destroyed GM Levon Aronian in dark-square play before crushing GM Hikaru Nakamura in 19 moves on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Firouzja maintained his superb form to score a victory against Wesley So along with draws against Shakriyar Mamedyarov & Caruana.

GM Leinier Dominguez, the reigning champion, had a strong start to the day with a score of 1.5/2 before he faltered against Aronian. Aronian’s winning move highlighted an intriguing castling scenario that is exclusive to Chess960. All eyes will be on Nepomniachtchi and Caruana’s top-of-the-table battle on day two, which will play a significant role in deciding the tournament winner. Chess enthusiasts will also get the chance to see Kasparov play with the white pieces versus Firouzja in a legendary intergenerational match.
