The video of the rapper is continuously being shared widely by netizens as everyone seems to be praising the rapper.
Rapper EPR rose to fame through MTV India’s Hustle 2.0. His video which is titled as “Religious Extremism,” talked about Kanhaiya Lal, who worked as a tailor, was killed by people who entered his store on the pretext of getting clothes and stitches.
The rapper has mentioned the names of killers Riyaz and Gaus, who brutally murdered Kanhaiya Lal.
Iyer also mentioned that Police didn’t follow up on the threats received by him properly. Furthermore, the rapper seemed to go on to talk about how the “Sar Tan Se Juda” (beheading) threat was given to Kanhaiya Lal and his killers stabbed him 26 times.
The video has continuously been shared on social media and became quite popular. Though, Iyer has a long history of rap songs that are either borderline or against nationalist, BJP, RSS, right-wing Hindus, and Prime Minister Modi.
There are a few claims that were made in the rap. However, it is obvious that it was impossible for EPR to mention particular cases that he had mentioned, but the case where he claimed a Dalit man was killed for carrying a moustache is likely case of Rajasthan-based Barwa’s Jitendrapal Meghwal.
Following his murder there were rumors on social media that Meghwal was killed for his stylish moustache. However, the state police has denied all the claims and said he was killed because of personal animosity.
In another case, he mentioned about a Dalit man who was allegedly killed for eating with upper caste men, who was found dead in December 2021 after he attended a marriage.
Though his family claimed he was murdered for eating in front of upper caste men. Following all this, several netizens warned other users for making anyone a hero for speaking up for Kanhaiya Lal.
Who’s EPR Iyer?
EPR Iyer who’s real name is Santhanam Srinivasan Iyer is an Indian rapper from Kolkata and a Hindu by religion.
The 33-year-old rapper was born in Tiruchirappalli, Tamilnadu, India. However, his family soon shifted to Kolkata. He graduated with a degree in journalism from NSHM Institute of Media and Communication at Kolkata. EPR is unmarried, but he is in a relationship with a girl named Ahana with his net worth standing at $100,000.
He developed an interest in tapping during his college days in 2010. At the time he formed a band named “!Banned,” which was later disbanded.
However, later he formed another band “Underground Authority” and he still performs with it. Back in the year 2020, the rapper had released 17 tracks based on “social issues.”
In track 6 titled ‘Abki Baar Kaun,’ rapper EPR used a tagline which says “Chowkidar Chor” that he used against Prime Minister Modi.
The rapper has targeted the PM as he went on to say in his rap that, “Abki Baar Kaun Abki baar Kaun, Apna Chor Apna Chowkidar Kaun?”
Throughout the rap, he was seen targeting PM Modi. Though towards the end of his rap he seemed to be targeting all leaders such as Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Amit Shah, Mamata Banerjee and others.
EPR has released a rap titled “We Inna Hindustan,” weeks after the violent clash between Delhi Police and anti-CAA protesters in Jamia Millia Islamia University where the police has used lathi charge to disperse the crowd after Muslims wrecked havoc in the capital and India, burning, destroying public property and attacking Hindus which has come a common school of Islamists in the country.
