BWF World Junior Badminton Championships 2022: Unnati Hooda, Anupama Upadhyaya, And Sankar Muthusamy To Lead India’s Challenge

The much-awaited championship will be held this year after a gap of two years following the COVID pandemic.
India Squad Selection Process
The Indian team for the prestigious tournament was selected though a thorough selection process which included two All India Ranking tournaments and a selection trial in Raipur.
Unnati Hooda topped the girls singles trials with S Rakshita Sree and Upadhayaya finishing second and third respectively.
For the boy’s singles category the in-form Bharat Raghav, who won both the All Indian ranking titles in Goa as well as Panchkula and former junior world No. 1 Sankar Muthusamy will be India’s best bet along with Ayush Shetty.
BWF World Junior Badminton Championships 2022
Till date, India has won one gold, three silver and five bronze medals in the BWF World Junior Badminton Championships.
Reigning Commonwealth Games gold medallist Lakshya Sen was the last Indian to stand on the podium to receive the boys singles bronze medal in 2018.
Badminton Association of India secretary Sanjay Mishra said:
The junior world championships are happening after a long gap and with new players emerging the team has been selected after an extensive selection trials.
We are confident that we would be challenging for medals in the mixed team championships and also the individual events.
The prestigious event will commence with the mixed team event. The event will feature five types of matches – men’s and women’s singles, men and women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
This year, India will also field two doubles pairs each in the men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles category.
A Promising India squad for the BWF Junior World Championships 2022
India has a promising squad ahead of the championships with the new combination of Arsh Mohammad and Abhinav Thakur alongside Nicholas Nathan Raj and Tushar Suveer who will shoulder the men’s doubles responsibility.
In women’s doubles, All India ranking meet winners in Goa, Ishrani Baruah and Devika Sihag, will play alongside Tamil Nadu’s Shreya Balaji and Srinidhi N, who helped their state win the South Zone U19 mixed team title recently.
