In an effort to repeat his triumph from 2020, world number one Gerwyn Price, who won the NZ Darts Masters in August, will begin his season against either Canadian Matt Campbell or Dutch veteran Vincent van der Voort. James Wade, the 2018 champion, will face the victor of the first-round match between Leonard Gates, the winner of the North American Championship, and Devon Petersen, a qualifier from South Africa.
The competition begins on Friday, September 16, with the first round. On Saturday, September 17, the second round will include the eight seeded players according to the World Series Order of Merit ranking. The £300,000 competition then comes to a close on Sunday, September 18, with the quarterfinals in the afternoon session being followed by the semifinals and final in the evening session.
