Shoji Morimoto has what some might consider to be the ideal job: he is compensated for doing almost nothing.
The 38-year-old Tokyo resident will accompany clients and act as a companion for 10,000 yen ($71) per booking.

The 38-year-old hails from Tokyo, said in a statement that he charges at around AU$103 to his clients just for being there for them. Shoji had approximately 4,000 bookings over the last 4 years.
In a recent interview with Reuters, Shoji Morimoto revealed that, “Basically, I rent myself out. My job is to be wherever my clients want me to be and to do nothing in particular.”
As per his statement, his jobs included going to a park with someone who wanted to use a company or seesaw, going to a restaurant with a woman because she believed her friends would be embarrassed by her India sari.
The man even waved and smiled at complete strangers through the window of a train because they wanted a happy send-off.
In his statement, while chatting with Reuters, Shoji Morimoto said, “I started wondering what would happen if I provided my ability to ‘do nothing as a service to clients.”
He further added, “People tend to think that my ‘doing nothing’ is valuable because it is useful [to other people].”
He continued, “But it’s fine to really not do anything,” before saying added. “People do not have to be useful in any specific way.”
Morimoto has also cleared that while he is getting paid to do nothing, he won’t just do anything.
In his statement he went on to say that, he won’t take any sexual requests from his clients as he recently turned down offers to move a fridge and even go to Cambodia.
As per various reports, Morimoto is widely known as a do nothing man as he went on to say that, “I am the ‘Rental-Do-Nothing-Man’. I provide a service where I can be rented to do nothing. This ‘Do-Nothing-Man’ is me and I rent myself out. I go to places where I am asked to, and I do nothing there.”
