Sinquefield Cup Grand Chess Tour 2022 Day 4 Results & Updated Standings

World Champion GM Magnus Carlsen withdrew before Sinquefield Cup’s fourth round without providing any clear reasons. It seems that the subsequent games were of less significance once this occurred. The good news for GM Fabiano Caruana, however, is that he managed to snap out of a protracted slump to win his first game of the competition, while the draws in the other games mean that GM Wesley So has taken the lead with 2.5 points.

GM Hans Niemann and Ian Nepomniachtchi are currently in second place with two points as the results of Carlsen’s earlier games are no longer taken into consideration for the standings. Firouzja vs Carlsen would have been the ideal matchup for Round 5, the final round before the rest day, but Alireza will now have an additional rest day. Mamedyarov against Caruana, Dominguez vs Niemann, Wesley So vs Aronian, and MVL against Nepo will be the matches that will take place on Tuesday.
