World No. 1 and defending champion Daniil Medvedev easily defeated Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech on Wednesday to advance to the U.S. Open third round. The 26-year-old avoided all three of his break points in the game, thus he wasn’t broken. He had one opportunity to break Rinderknech’s serve, and he succeeded on five of them to win 6-2, 7-5, 6-3.

The first two opponents were no match for Medvedev, who should also have little dif culty in the third round. He should cruise into Round 4 in an uncontested fashion.
