The July Release Of “18” By Jeff And Johnny Depp
“18,” the eagerly anticipated Beck and Depp joint effort, was released on July 15. There were 13 songs on the album, most of which were renditions of Motown soul classics. There were also songs by the Beach Boys, The Velvet Underground, and the English rock group Killing Joke.
On both Billboard’s Top Albums and Top Current Albums lists, 18 debuted at number 10. In 2016, the two musicians’ initial shared interests were automobiles and guitars. In 2019, they made the decision to collaborate on an album and began to work, including some of Depp’s own songs as well as a variety of covers.
We were going to name the album “Kitchen Sink” since we dumped everything on it, Jeff had explained in a press statement. We simply had one strategy, which was to play our favourite tunes and see where they led us.
Lately, Beck And Depp Were Accused Of Stealing The Lyrics Of Songs.
The duo recently gained attention when it was claimed that the lyrics to their new song Sad Motherf*ckin’ Parade were lifted verbatim from Slim Wilson’s Hobo Ben, a traditional Black toast preserved in Bruce Jackson’s 1974 book Get Your Ass in the Water and Swim Like Me and a 1976 album of the same name. Hobo Ben is a form of Black folk poetry.
A spokesperson for the album has said, “We are reviewing the inquiry relating to the song ‘Sad Motherf*ckin’ Parade’ on the 18 albums by Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp. If appropriate, additional copyright credits will be added to all forms of the album.”
