ATP Canadian Open 2022 Results, Score

Nick Kyrgios vs Daniil Medvedev

With a thrilling three-set victory over World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev in Montreal, Nick Kyrgios extended his hot streak. The Wimbledon runner-up from Australia defeated Medvedev with a score of 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 6-2 in a draining match in the second round that was contested in oppressive heat and humidity.

In the sixth game of the deciding set, Kyrgios had to dig deep after losing the first set in a tiebreaker, and he did so by breaking Medvedev with one amazing backhand pass. After exactly two hours, he defeated the defeated Russian by breaking him for the second time in a row.

Head To Head: 0-0

Alex de Minaur and Nick Kyrgios have never faced each other before in their whole ATP career so the head-to-head currently is 0-0.

Prediction

De Minaur, who is ranked 21st in the world, and Kyrgios, who is ranked 37th, will be facing off for the first time ever in this match at the Canadian Open 2022.

By overcoming Medvedev in the second round, Kyrgios recorded one of the best victories in his professional career. He played a really clean match, hitting 37 wins to just 17 errors, and his serve was also quite strong.

In contrast, De Minaur made a lot of faults against Dimitrov and finished with 23 unforced errors. Even though he made five double faults, his serve was respectable.

In the second round, Kyrgios modified his strategy. He began to serve and volley regularly instead of battling Medvedev from the back of the court. Out of 48 net approach points won, he won 32 of them, swinging the balance in his favour.

The serve-and-volley strategy used by Kyrgios in this matchup could not be effective because De Minaur is famous for his court coverage and footwork. The latter, though, has sufficient resources at his disposal to best his younger rival. He is a superior server and also possesses greater ground-attack strength.

De Minaur won’t give up easily, but Kyrgios will probably prevail in the end.
