WTA Citi Open 2022 Women’s Singles And Doubles Winners
Liudmila Samsonova vs Kaia Kanepi
Liudmila Samsonova defeated No. 6 seed Kaia Kanepi with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the Hologic WTA Tour final on Sunday to win her second singles championship of her career.
World No. 60 Samsonova beat Kanepi, a former member of the Top 15, in 1 hour and 46 minutes, adding to her victory in the Berlin grass-court tournament she won as a qualifier last year. Samsonova is now 2-0 in tour-level singles finals.
Erin Routliffe/Jessica Pegula vs Anna Kalinskaya and Caty McNally
The No. 1 seeds Jessica Pegula and Erin Routliffe won the doubles match on Saturday by defeating the No. 4 seeds Anna Kalinskaya and Caty McNally with a score of 6-3, 5-7, [12-10].
After 1 hour and 37 minutes of play, Pegula and Routliffe narrowly defeated Kalinskaya and McNally by winning four of the following five points in the match-tiebreak.
Routliffe and Pegula qualified for the championship match by winning three matches throughout the week. The pair defeated Sabrina Santamaria and Heather Watson in straight sets (6-4, 6-1) to start the tournament. In the quarterfinals, they defeated Xiyu Wang and Yue Yuan in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (9)). In the semifinals, Routliffe and Pegula had a 6-0, 5-2 lead before winning on a walkover.
WTA Citi Open 2022 Women’s Singles And Doubles
The total prize pool for the women’s division is $251,750, a slight increase of 0.70 per cent from when the competition was previously held in 2019.
The WTA champion namely Liudmila Samsonova will receive a check for $33,200, which is a decrease of -22.79 per cent from 2019. Instead, the earlier rounds experience a pay increase; for instance, a first-round loser will now get $2,835, or 27.70% more than three years ago.
