Para powerlifter Sudhir won the men’s heavyweight category final, giving India one more gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022. Because of him, India won the gold medal in para-powerlifting at the Commonwealth Games for the first time ever.
The 27-year-old started India’s medal count in the para-sports competition at the Birmingham Games by capturing the gold.

Sudhir, who won bronze at the 2018 Asian Para Games, attempted 212 kg on his second try after lifting 208 kg on his first. On his second try, he was able to hoist it, shattering the Games record with 134.5 points. Sudhir tried to lift 217 kg in his third lift but was unsuccessful, hence the outcome was unaffected.

Who Is Sudhir?
Sudhir is a famous para powerlifter of India. He has recently been in news for winning the first-ever gold medal for India in para-powerlifting at the Commonwealth Games 2022.
He belongs to a farming family in the Haryana province of Sonipat. When he was just four years old, he got polio and till now he has had an impairment due to the effects of polio. Early on, he became interested in athletics, and he was eager to compete in weightlifting competitions.
He is presently employed by the Government of Haryana as a Senior Coach (Weightlifting) and has qualified for the 2022 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China, which will now take place the following year.
Presently, he is 27 years old and his height stands at 5 feet 8 inches. His surname is not known with his full name Sudhir only.
His Career
He started playing sports in 2013, and in 2016, he won a gold medal in his first national competition. At the Asian Para Games in 2018, where he made his international debut, he won the bronze medal. Unfortunately, his father tragically died away on the day he received the award.
Sudhir had to overcome many obstacles to advance in his profession, but he remained dedicated enough to put in long hours and play his best. At the 17th Senior and 12th Junior National Para Powerlifting Championships in 2018, he was also dubbed the “Strong Man of India.”
He also won a bronze medal at the 2018 Asian Para Games. Now, won India’s first gold medal in the para-powerlifting event of the Commonwealth Games 2022.
