Before retiring on November 8 at the age of 65, justice UU Lalit would have served in the position for just 74 days.ย After replacing SA Bobde in April of last year, Justice Ramana held the position for more than 16 months.

Who Is UU Lalit?
UU Lalit is a well-known judge of the Supreme Court of India who has recently been in the news because he going to be the next chief justice of India.
His full name is Uday Umesh Lalit. He was born on born 9 November 1957. He was born into the house of U.R. Lalit, a senior advocate at the Supreme Court of India and a former additional judge of the Bombay High Court Nagpur bench.
Presently, he is currently 64 years old. Justice Lalit, who hails from Maharashtra, will have a short term as the 49th Chief Justice of India as he will remain in office till November 8, 2022 and his son is named Shreeyash who is married.
His Career
Justice UU Lalit became a member of the bar in June 1983 and began working for the Indian Supreme Court in 1986. Lalit collaborated with Soli Sorabjee, a former attorney general for India, from 1986 until 1992. Heย was appointed a senior Supreme Court attorney on April 29, 2004.
Lalit was appointed as the special public prosecutor for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the 2G spectrum proceedings by a Supreme Court bench consisting of Justices GS Singhvi and AK Ganguly in 2011.
On January 10, 2019, Justice UU Lalit withdrew from the panel of five judges assembled to handle the Ayodhya dispute case after lawyer Rajeev Dhavan informed the court of his attendance on behalf of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh in aย related case.
He has also withdrawn from several other prominent cases.
On July 13, 2020, a two-judge panel confirmed the Travancore Royal family’s authority to run the Sree Padmanabha Swami temple. Justice UU Lalit was a member of the panel. On August 27th, 2022, he will take over as the 49th Chief Justice of India.
