Hosts England got things going quickly and aggressively, earning two penalty corners in the first two minutes but failing to convert either. Giselle Ansley, though, fired a strong shot on her third effort that got past Savita Punia in the Indian goal. Tess Howard then gave England a two-goal lead midway through the third quarter. Udita of India lost possession of the ball in midfield, and Sophie Hamilton struck a shot that Howard deflected in.

A penalty corner was awarded to England against the flow of play, and Hannah Martin was there to divert the drag-flick and score England’s third goal. Vandana Katariya, an Indian striker, scored the team’s lone goal in the penultimate minute, but the outcome was already decided by that moment. To guarantee their place in the semifinals at the CWG 2022, India, who is now third in Pool A, must defeat Canada in their final Pool A match on Wednesday.
