2022 Commonwealth Games – Women’s Hockey Teams, Groups, Latest Results, Upcoming Schedule, Date, Time, And Venue
The Indian women’s hockey team opened their Commonwealth Games campaign on Friday by defeating a weak Ghana 5-0. While Neha Goyal, Sangita Kumari, and Salima Tete each made a field goal for India, Gurjit Kaur scored a pair of goals. India won the game overall, however their opening two periods of play were lackluster as Ghana’s defence put on a strong display to frustrate their highly anticipated opponents. The insufficient connection between the midfield and the forward line was frustrating for India.
India continued to struggle with penalty corner conversion, only converting on one out of ten opportunities. Ghana was predicted to lose against the Indians handily, but goalkeeper Abigail Boye made some incredible saves to keep her team in the game.
