The Indian women’s hockey team has competed in two gold medal matches and two bronze medal games since its debut at the quadrennial event in 1998. In the opening match at the 1998 CWG in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, India came in fourth place. Suraj Lata Devi’s legendary victory in 2002 over New Zealand allowed India to face off against England in the finals. In the final of 2002, India won the game 3-2, earning the nation its first gold medal in the women’s hockey at Commonwealth Games.

Participating Teams, Countries And Format
The other teams qualified based on the FIH Women’s World Ranking, while England qualified as the host nation and New Zealand qualified as the defending champions. The top two teams from each group go to the semi-finals, and the other teams are assigned to lower classification matches to determine their ultimate ranking. Ten teams were divided into two groups in March 2022.

2022 Commonwealth Games – Women’s Hockey Teams, Groups, Latest Results, Upcoming Schedule, Date, Time, And Venue
Field hockey is one of the sports featured at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. Hockey has been played seven times since it was first introduced in the 1998 Commonwealth Games, with the most recent competition set for England. The University of Birmingham Hockey and Squash Center will host the women’s field hockey competition in the 2022 Commonwealth Games from July 29 to August 7, 2022.
The Janneke Schopman-coached Indian Women’s Hockey squad will have its hands full in Group A against old foes Wales, Ghana, Canada, and England. Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Scotland, and Kenya make up Group A. Though making it to the semifinals might not present a significant challenge, India’s real challenge will begin if they reach the semi-final, where they are likely face either Australia or New Zealand. In Tokyo 2020, the India women’s team stunned everyone with an outstanding performance, unexpectedly making it to the semifinals and ultimately placing fourth.
Savita, the team’s captain, will lead India against Ghana on July 29 before facing Wales on July 30, England on August 2, and Canada on August 3 in the first round.
