As part of its inquiry into the state’s teacher recruitment fraud, the Enforcement Directorate detained West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee on Saturday. After being interrogated for nearly 11 hours the day before, he was taken into custody by the investigation agency.

After around 26 hours of questioning in relation to the investigation, Chatterjee, who was the state education minister at the time of the fraud, was taken into custody.
The arrest occurred a day after the CBI said that Arpita Mukherjee, a close associate of Chatterjee who was also apprehended, had over Rs 20 crore in cash recovered from her home.

Who Is Partha Chatterjee?
Parth Chatterjee is a renowned politician from West Bengal who has recently been in the news after he was detained following subsequent raids on his multiple residents by the Enforcement Directorate.
He was born on born 6 October 1952 in Calcutta, West Bengal. Presently, he is 69 years old. His father’s name is Santosh and he is married but his wife’s and children’s name is not known. Kalyanmay Bhattacharya is the son-in-law of Partha Bhattacharya and his daughter’s husband.
He did his schooling at Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya in Narendrapur with a class 12 diploma. He later did his graduation in economics from Ashutosh College. Additionally, Chatterjee has an MBA from ISWBM and a master’s degree in business administration.
He is associated with the Trinamool Congress party.
His Career
After working as an HR specialist for Andrew Yule, Partha Chatterjee began his professional career.
He first won a seat as an MLA from Behala Paschim in 2001, and he was later returned to office from the same district in 2006, 2016 and 2021. From 2006 until 2011, he served as the West Bengal Legislative Assembly’s opposition leader.
He was sworn in as a cabinet minister for the TMC government’s departments of commerce and industry, public enterprises, information technology and electronics, and parliamentary affairs.
2011 saw his nomination for the position of house deputy leader. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Public Enterprises, Information Technology, and Electronics was replaced by Amit Mitra after the 2016 Assembly election, and he was appointed Minister-in-Charge of Higher Education and School Education Department.
Additionally, he serves as the All India Trinamool Congress’s General Secretary for West Bengal. He served as West Bengal’s previous education minister and is currently the department’s minister of commerce and industries.
He also serves as the head of the Kolkata-based Naktala Udayan Durga Puja Committee, known for its elaborate pandals that attract tens of thousands of visitors during Puja.
