India Swimming Records: Swimmer Sajan Prakash Creates 200 meter Record After Getting ‘A’ Cut For Tokyo Olympics 2021

Indian Swimmer Sajan Prakash broke the 200 meter record as took around 1:49.73 seconds in the FINA qualifying match to add his name to the list of India swimming records

Sajan Prakash even broke the record of Virdhawal Khade, who had won a bronze medal during the 2010 Asian Games and his timings were 1:49.86 seconds.

Sajan Prakash is the freestyle Indian swimmer. His specialities also include butterfly and medley swimming techniques. During the 2015 National games in Kerala he had created a record by winning six gold and three silver medals and also became the Best Athlete in the tournament. He had also participated in the 2016 Rio Olympics for the 200m butterfly event.

Prakash recently got the elusive ‘A’ cut and also qualified for the Tokyo Olympics in the 200m freestyle event in Sette Colli Trophy in Italy on Sunday. He created a record by completing the round in 1:49.73 seconds and also broke the record of Virdhawal Khade.

Records broken by the Indian swimmer Sajan Prakash

Recently, Sajan has gone for a record breaking spree. The latest one could be considered his third national mark for the month.

He became the first ever Indian swimmer to get the Olympic Qualifying Time (OQT) for completing the 200m butterfly event in just 1:56:38 seconds on Saturday.

He rewrote his own national record of 1:56.96 seconds which was set by him last week during the Belgrade Trophy swimming competition.

Achievements And Career of Sajan Prakash

During the 2018 Asian Games, he had participated in 100 & 200m butterfly event, 4x200m freestyle relay  and 4x100m freestyle relay. In the tournament, he had finished at the fifth position in 200m butterfly with the timing of 1:57.75 seconds and in the 4x100m freestyle relay, he stood at the eighth positions during the finals.

Prakash was the only Indian male swimmer to have participated in the 2016 Rio Olympics. During the 2017, Asian Indoor Games, which was held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, he had won a silver medal for the 100m butterfly category. He currently has 10 national, 3 South Asian and 1 Asian record in different categories.

He became the first Indian swimmer to have qualified for the finals for the 2018 Asian Games for the 200m butterfly category at the age of 32.
