In 2018, Heard wrote in Washington Post that she is a victim of domestic abuse.

Actor Jhonny Depp filed a $50 million lawsuit against his ex-wife for defaming on false charges. His ex-wife countersued him for $100 million.

After the 6 week-long trial, the jury awarded Depp $5 million in punitive damages in addition to $10 million in compensatory damages. They also awarded $2 million for compensatory damages.
