“8647” number code meaning explained as James Comey’s post is attributed as threat to assassinate Donald Trump

Some have interpreted “86 47” as a threat to kill US President Donald Trump. The post has been removed by Mr. Comey, who was fired by Mr. Trump in 2017, who claims he was not aware that the figures were linked to “violence.”

“86” means “to throw out,” “to get rid of,” or “to refuse service to.” 86 is an American slang phrase. 47 also represents Trump, the 47th president of the United States and this fueled speculation that “8647” implied a threat to “eliminate” Trump.

Mr. Comey wrote “cool shell formation on my beach walk” in an Instagram post that has since been removed.

Comey’s post on May 15th was referred to by Congressman Andy Ogles as “a coded suggestion to ‘eliminate 47’-that is, assassinate the President.”

The Congressman encouraged both authorities to look into possible federal law infractions in his letter. He insisted on knowing if Mr. Comey still had security clearances or access to confidential material.

The president’s protection agency, the Secret Service, acknowledged Mr. Comey’s post and said it takes such “rhetoric” extremely seriously.

“We vigorously investigate anything that can be taken as a potential threat against our protectees. We are aware of the social media posts by the former FBI Director & we take rhetoric like this very seriously. Beyond that, we do not comment on protective intelligence matters,” wrote Anthony Guglielmi, Chief of Communications for the US Secret Service.

After receiving criticism, Mr. Comey removed the post and clarified that he is against all forms of violence.

Reactions to James Comey’s post

People like Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Meghan McCain said Comey’s Instagram post was quite alarming and should be looked at. The FBI is supporting the investigation, which has been confirmed by the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Secret Service.

Kristi Noem said federal law enforcement is looking into Comey’s social media post, which she and other Republicans say incites violence against President Donald Trump, even though there is no proof that it constituted a direct threat.
