Hashika Ramachandra, a 14-year-old rising star in Indian swimming, demonstrated her class by capturing the sixth gold medal of the 36th National Games on Friday at Sardar Patel Aquatic Complex. On the penultimate day, the Karnataka swimmer won back-to-back gold medals and broke the 400m freestyle meet record after holding off a strong fight from Delhi’s Bhavya Sachdeva. Hashika broke Aakansha Vora’s previous record (4:32.50), set in 2015, by touching in 4:32.17s. Additionally, Hashika won the 200m Individual Medley competition in 2:26.23s to earn her sixth gold medal of the competition.

Sreehari Nataraj (Karnataka) and Maana Patel (Gujarat) won the gold in the men’s and women’s 50-meter backstroke events, respectively, with meet records. Sajan Prakash, a seasoned athlete, won two more gold medals, bringing his total for the games to five. Sajan Prakash set a new record for the 200-meter race after defeating challenge from S.Siva of Karnataka and Advait Page of MP in the final 50 meter.

Vivaan Kapoor triumphed in the men’s trap event at the National Games on Friday despite a technical difficulty with his shooting gun. 20-year-old Vivaan from Rajasthan won gold medal by defeating Zoravar Singh Sandhu from Punjab 31–26. The women’s trap gold medal was won by Madhya Pradesh’s Neeru, who defeated Sabeera Haris of Uttar Pradesh 26–24. Indian ace Bhowneesh Mendiratta placed fourth in men’s event after a below-par performance and will aim to improve his performance in future.

Services, the defending champions, is far ahead of second place with 100 medals, including 42 gold medals, according to the most recent statistics. Haryana is in second place with 75 total medals, including 29 gold medals, and is followed by Maharashtra in third with 26 gold medals. Despite a great early start, the hosts Gujarat have slipped to 13th place in the standings with 10 gold medals.
