Begun in 1923, the prestigious Le Mans race has over history become one of the most famed and illustrious races in the world of motorsports. Requiring drivers to compete across a period of 24 hours, Le Mans is said to be a true test of a driver’s grit, guile, pluck and character.
Not only does it draw the best out of every driver but the arduous and grueling conditions paired with dwindling light and inclement weather have seen the 24 Hours of Le Mans race become a coveted event over the years. Now in its 89th edition, the 2021 installment of the race has been every bit enthralling as well.
24 Hours of Le Mans Race 2021 Prize Money, Payout And Purse
As we approach the finishing line of the race which began on August 21, we take a look at the prize money on offer to the winners of the race. Given the stature of Le Mans, the prize money is frugal, one which looks extremely small when compared to the one offered by F1.
Every classified driver is awarded 7,000 eurors for marking their presence in the race whilst finishing first in every category sees the winning side get 10,000 euros. The winner of the race is meanwhile richer by 40,000 euros while second place takes home 25,000, third 20,000, fourth 15,000 and fifth 12,000 euros respectively.
Toyota had taken home the revered title in 2020, a team which has over the years emerged as a true powerhouse of the circuit in France. The 2021 edition of the race marked a historic occasion as Fernando Alonso partook in a demo run in Alpine’s F1 car, the first time a F1 car was driven on the circuit.
