The Caution Crew, which consisted of rappers Ross and Rodney-O, released the 12-inch singles “Westside Storie” and “Rhythm Rock” in 1983. According to Marquis, these were made when he was a junior in high school and lived in California.

According to Ross, his cousin came up with the name Brother Marquis for his rapper persona because he was a Muslim and would often call people “Brother.” The two would spend time together in a Grand Marquis automobile and partake in Islamic customs. His cousin started referring to him as Brother Marquis over time.

Move Somethin’, 2 Live Crew’s second studio album, was released in 1988. Both “Move Somethin'” and “Do Wah Diddy Diddy” were singles from the Gold-certified album. Move Somethin’ outperformed its predecessor on the charts, peaking at #20 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and #68 on the Billboard 200.

The fourth album by Ross and the 2 Live Crew, Banned, was released in the United States in 1990. Originally released as a Campbell solo album with 2 Live Crew, it was eventually recognised as a 2 Live Crew record in several editions.

Chain Swangaz’s 2011 track “Steak & Mash Potatoes” had Ross as a featured guest. The song’s music video starred Ross and Chain Swangaz as fast-food workers who cause trouble for their boss, Charlie Sheen, when he’s not around.

The song “Take It Off” by Ross and Wong Won was released in 2014. Additionally, Wong Won and Ross had brief cameos in the “G.D.F.R.” music video by Flo Rida. The two stated in the same year that a new 2 Live Crew studio album, Turn Me On, was going to be released.

Wong Won departed 2 Live Crew in 2016 and died in 2017. Ross and Hobbs got back together to resurrect the group.
